Week of August 19-23

Picture Day!

We read these two books to get us ready for picture day! Unlike the main characters in the two stories, we didn't work to make our school picture as silly as possible! :)

We practiced writing the sight words "I" and "am" during interactive writing. Interactive writing is a time that the children and I share the marker to focus on writing small words or phrases. Each child has his or her name written on a stick that is kept in a cup. When I pull a child's stick, he or she comes to the easel to complete the phrase while everyone else copies on their own marker board.

On Thursday, we celebrated Nina's 6th birthday! Happy Birthday, Nina! We had a great time with you and your mom!

Finally, on Friday, we became the Kings and Queens of Kindergarten! We read the book The King of Kindergarten and made our own crowns to go along with it! This story is about a little boy who takes great pride in being a kindergartner, just like we do!

Yes, even Kings and Queens practice their handwriting! :)

Math Manipulatives

We explored with our math manipulatives last week. This exploration helps us to better focus on using the manipulatives as learning materials, and not toys,
in the coming weeks. :)

Welcome to Reed Assembly

We enjoyed our first assembly on Friday! It was our Welcome to Reed Assembly. We did a great job of sitting quietly and listening to our speakers!

How Do You Get Home?

We started our How Do You Get Home? graph. We'll add more names next week!

First Week Choice Time and Recess Fun

We love using our kindergarten playground! We also have a great time in our classroom during choice time!

Kissing Hand Project

Here we are making our first project! It may have taken us two days, but we got it done! :)
