Week of December 2-6

We learned a new game called Quiz, Quiz, Trade. Since this a new game for us, we started with beginning letter sounds. As we become more familiar with the game, we'll add more challenging content. During this game, everyone is given a card. In this case, it was a card with an animal on it. The children walked around the room until I said "Freeze!" When the children heard the word, "Go," they pair up with the child closest to them. They then tell each other the first sound of the animal that each other is holding. The children then traded cards and the process started over again.

Here is some gingerbread center fun!

We went on a shape walk during math.
We found that our carpet is a rectangle,
that has squares in it, and that some of the
squares have triangles in them!

The circle shaped camera lens has been spotted!

In phonics, we worked with partners to make up silly poems using our word part cards. The word part cards that we picked from were the parts -in and -an. We loved holding the microphone as we said our poems out loud to the class!

The Super Readers learned another reading super power! We learned about Book Talk Power. We use Book Talk Power to help introduce a book to our partner(s). This helps our partner know what to expect before reading the book.

We played the game Four Corners in science. During this game, a question is read out loud. Different corners in the room are designated as different potential answers for the question. After hearing the questions and hearing the possible answers, the children go to the corner that they feel is the best answer. After everyone has found a corner, the answer is revealed.

We read the poem Where is Thumbkin? during shared reading. We then worked on bringing the poem to life by reading it with correct punctuation. Ask your child to tell you about Emily Exclamation Point, Peggy Period and Quinten Question Mark.

After adding punctuation to the poem, we checked to see if we used the correct punctuation marks and we did!
We worked in small groups during science to classify animals.

We enjoyed hearing Parker's dad read to us.
Thanks for coming in!
